An expert discusses the consequences of US-Russia negotiations without Ukraine's involvement
Europe risks being sidelined in major geopolitical changes, as the US and Russia may reach an agreement without its participation.
Washington has started negotiations with Russia through the heads of Ukraine and other Europeans, and there are concerns that these talks could not only involve ending the war, but also address the future architecture of European security.
This opinion was expressed by Jana Pulieren, Head of the European Council on International Relations in Berlin, in an exclusive comment to TSN.ua.
"Trump could have made concessions that Biden refused in December 2021, such as on the presence of US troops and weapon systems in Eastern Europe, in order to agree to Russia's veto on further NATO expansion. Europe risks being powerless and sidelined as the foundations of European security are being dismantled. February 2022 destroyed our faith in a collective security order with Russia and showed us the dark side of our fundamental dependence on Russia and China in critical areas," she said.
According to Pulieren, February 2025 shows us that Americans no longer feel responsible for European security and that their interests are fundamentally different from ours. This is a real turning point.
