Around 400 Thousand People Will Need Evacuation in Case of Nuclear Incident at ZNPP – Regional Military Administration
The current situation at the nuclear power plan creates a risk for much wider area than just Zaporizhzhia Region.
If any nuclear incident happens as Zaporizhzhia NPP, around 400 thousand people may need evacuation according to Oleksnadr Starukh, the Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.
According to him, the Ukrainian authorities have adjusted emergency response and evacuation plans for residents of Enerhodar and other towns and cities within the affected area in view of the military factors. Now the situation is controlled by the central government.
"The current situation at the nuclear power plan creates a risk for much wider area than just Zaporizhzhia Region. If we assume a 50-km-wide exclusion zone following potential nuclear incident at Zaporizhzhia NPP in Enerhodar, then we will have to evacuate at least 200 thousand residents of our region and at least 200 thousand more residents of nearby Dnipro Region, including, but not limited to such cities as Nikopol, Marhanets, Enerhodar, Vasylivka, Dniprorudne, et cetera", he stressed.
According to Starukh, proper implementation of the emergency response plans may be extremely challenging, since a part of the region’s territory is currently controlled by the Russian troops.
Meanwhile, now the radiational conditions at Zaporizhzhia NPP are stable and within the normal range.
