After the Kremlin mouthpiece, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmytro Medvedev publicly announced the real reason for the "eternal" war, and that a new war could erupt in 10 or 50 years, the situation was commented on by Ukrainian experts.  Political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko and military-political analyst of the "Information Resistance" group, Oleksandr Kovalenko commented on this for TSN.ua.

"Now I am in Davos at Ukrainian events. Yesterday, when there was a discussion of historians, this post by Medvedev was mentioned. In my opinion, the well-known Ukrainian historian Yaroslav Hrytsak responded very accurately and precisely. He said that it's not worth having a discussion with a clinical idiot. I would say, with a political idiot, which is what Dmytro Medvedev has turned into," - Volodymyr Fesenko says.

The expert adds: "His posts cannot be analyzed rationally. This is a manifestation of his clinical anti-Ukrainianism, his way of showcasing himself in a specific manner, trying to be more pro-Russian than Putin. That's his motivation for writing such posts."

The global goal of Russia

According to Fesenko, this post by Medvedev is a "diagnosis": "The diagnosis applies not only to Medvedev himself but also to the current Putin regime. The essence is that this regime will not recognize Ukraine. The destruction of Ukraine is a systematic, global political goal of the Putin regime. Western leaders should be aware of this and take it seriously. Compromises with people like Medvedev are impossible. Only force can stop them. But if they feel the strength, the ability of Ukraine to defend itself, the support of Ukraine by the West, then none of the threats that Medvedev writes about will become a reality. It will be hysteria, nothing more."

In addition, Fesenko says, "Depriving Ukraine of the right to exist is a reflection of the worldview of Putin, Medvedev and the current Russian elite. Our struggle against them has a sacred character – it is a fight for our future, for our survival as a nation. For this, we will need the support of our Western and other international partners. But there is no inevitability. Regardless of what Medvedev writes, we are not doomed to perpetual war. There may be risks, but if they feel that there is strength behind Ukraine and our international partners, they will not dare to new aggression."

There will be risks even in 50 years

In turn, military analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko commented on Medvedev's statement as follows: "It is quite clear even without Medvedev, an alcoholic, that there are risks of war in 10 years, and in 20, and in 50, because Russia has always had predatory intentions towards Ukraine. There is nothing surprising about it. It is not some unprecedented warning. It is the historical context of events between Russia and Ukraine. It's intimidation."

Kovalenko added: "Even if a neoliberal or undemocratic leader comes to power, there will still be a return to the old-regime format of dictatorship and a totalitarian regime with imperial ambitions."
