Foreign Ministry Refuted Putin’s Statement about “Grain Deal” Guarantees Allegedly Given by Ukraine: Details
Ukraine has neither used nor ever intended to use the grain corridor for military purposes, so it has not assumed any new obligations that go beyond those already set forth in the "grain deal agreement”.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry refuted the statement of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin that Ukraine had allegedly provided certain guarantees for the implementation of the "grain deal agreement".
The corresponding statement was made by Oleh Nikolenko, the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, on November 3rd.
"Vladimir Putin claimed that Russia decided to unblock the grain deal after Ukraine provided some 'guarantees' that the grain corridor would not be used for military purposes," Nikolenko said.
However, the Foreign Ministry representative stressed that Ukraine had neither used nor ever intended to use the grain corridor for military purposes. According to Nikolenko, the Ukrainian side has always adhered and continues to clearly adhere to the provisions of the grain deal agreement.
"I remind you that within the framework of this agreement, the parties undertook to guarantee a safe and reliable environment for the functioning of the grain corridor. Ukraine has never done anything to jeopardize the grain route", - wrote Nikolenko.
Furthermore, a representative of the Foreign Ministry also added that "our state had not assumed any new obligations that would go beyond those already provided by the grain deal agreement terms.
According to Nikolenko, Moscow decided to resume the grain deal thanks to the active diplomacy of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"In coordinating with Ukraine, they found the right words to convince Putin. It was a position of strength, not concessions. Russia's return to fulfilling its obligations within the framework of the grain initiative vividly illustrates the effective formula: strong position + decisive actions = result," the Foreign Ministry press service stressed while thanking the UN and Turkey for their leadership in reopening the grain corridor, which plays an important role in ensuring global food security.
