Mental Health Condition of Ukrainians during the War: Major Study Results Are Reported

A large-scale study was conducted in Ukraine to explore the mental health condition of Ukrainian during the war, as well as their willingness to seek help from mental health specialists, the Ministry of Health reports with the reference to the results of a recent survey of Ukrainians.

According to healthcare professionals, 71% of respondents have recently experienced stress or severe nervousness. Half of the survey participants experience anxiety and stress. Women and people aged 25-34 years account for the largest percentage of those who have recently experienced stress or strong nervousness.

"Around 49% of survey respondents believe that psychological help is only for mentally ill people. Only 2% of respondents have consulted with a mental health specialist - a psychologist, psychotherapist, family doctor or therapist," the experts noted.

According to the survey, more than 80% of Ukrainians have never made an appointment with a psychologist in their own life.

The Health Ministry also reported that since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine 650 thousand people had consulted psychologists and psychiatrists within the healthcare system framework and have received psychological help.
