Massive strikes on Ukraine: Zaluzhnyi points out what the U.S. doesn’t understand — but Russia clearly does

Valerii Zaluzhnyi emphasizes that Russia’s mass use of drones, missiles, and guided aerial bombs requires a fundamentally new, distributed, and layered air defense system.

It is not feasible to build an air defense system in Ukraine based on extremely expensive weapons. This is something the United States does not fully grasp yet — but Russia understands it well, judging by the consequences of recent strikes on Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, wrote this in his column for Ukrainska Pravda.

Zaluzhnyi noted that Russia’s large-scale use of strike drones, combined with ballistic and cruise missile strikes and guided aerial bombs, demands the creation of an entirely new unified air defense system across Ukraine. This system must be geographically distributed and layered by altitude and type of air defense assets.

«It is evident that the main principle of modern warfare is that cheap, mass-produced weapons can exhaust even the most powerful and expensive ones. It is air defense that requires radical solutions, which are simply impossible without the use of advanced and proven technologies. Given the scale of the attacks, it is not feasible to build an air defense system based on extremely expensive weapons, ” the ambassador stated.

According to him, the production timelines for such weapons remain stuck in the paradigm of a fast-paced war against guerrillas.

«All this, perhaps, is still not fully understood in the United States, but judging by the recent consequences of Russian strikes, it is well understood in Russia. This very fact may be critically important for shaping not only Ukraine’s future but also that of future alliances, ” the former Commander-in-Chief emphasized.
