Russia’s criminal actions threaten not only Ukraine's radiation safety but also the entire European continent, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine said.
The Ministry is convinced that Russia is deliberately directing missiles and Shahed drones over Ukrainian nuclear power plants and has reported this to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced this.
During the recent night-time air attack, a Russian drone flew in close proximity to the industrial area of an operating nuclear power plant. "Russia's criminal actions pose a threat to radiation safety not only in Ukraine but across the entire European continent," stated the Ministry of Energy.
First Deputy Minister of Energy Yuriy Sheiko adds that this is far from the first instance of a Russian drone or missile flying directly over an operating nuclear facility.
“There are grounds to believe that the aggressor country is deliberately routing drones and missiles over nuclear power plants, creating a threat to the region’s radiation safety,” he said.
The Ministry of Energy has informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the EU Council of Energy Ministers about yet another gross violation by Russia of nuclear and radiation safety requirements.
“Ukraine is doing everything possible to protect nuclear power plants and ensure their safe operation amid ongoing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, including substations that directly impact the operation of nuclear power plants. Russia also continues the illegal occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, using it to blackmail the civilized world. A clear response from partners is needed to every such instance of Russia’s disregard for global safety interests,” the Ministry of Energy stated.
