Missiles Were Saved for Fall and winter Period: the AFU Officer Explains Why Invaders Attacked Ukraine Sooner than Expected
On October 10th, the Russians carried out a massive missile strike against Ukraine in order to intimidate the nation and spread panic within the society, since they failed to defeat the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield.
According to Yurii Ihnat, the Spokesman of the AFU’s Airforce, the Russian army was planning to carry out massive strike during the fall and winter season, however, the missiles were fired yesterday on October 10th due to explosion at the illegally constructed Crimea Bridge.
As Ihnat said in his interview for RBC Ukraine, the invaders failed to defeat the Ukrainian army on the battlefield, so now they attempt to spread panic in the society.
"Therefore, they (the invaders – ed.) will attempt to attack the country’s energy system. Power supply is critical for operation of other utilities, such as water supply, heat supply, et cetera. Initially they planned to wait for a colder weather in order to make the strike as painful as possible. However, they probably decided to attack sooner than expected because of the Crimea Bridge. Potentially, it’s not the last time when they do so”, Ihnat expalined.
He also assumed that the Russian missiles fired yesterday were initially saved for attack during the fall and winter period.
"Obviously, these missiles were saved for attack during the colder fall and winter period. From their perspective, it would be more reasonable to launch this strike, when the ambient temperature is around 0 degrees to cause additional problems with heating and bring more pain to the civilian population. This is nothing, but overt terror against civilians”, the Spokesman stressed.
According to Ihnat, the missiles used to bomb Ukraine are very expensive, and therefore the Russians do not use them against military units on the battlefield.
"They are concerned about potential depletion of missile stock, I guess they are running low on these missiles”, he summarized.
