Russia uses a ceasefire to regroup and continue its aggression.

This was stated by Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

“Russia views everything as a ceasefire for the sake of a pause to heal its wounds, carry out informational and political destabilization of Ukraine in order to resume military aggression later,” Kovalenko emphasized.

According to Kovalenko, it is necessary not only to strengthen Ukraine's and Europe’s defense capabilities but also to control the Russian military-industrial complex and reduce Russia’s army.

“In addition to security guarantees, strengthening Europe’s defense potential through American weapons and Ukrainian defense industry, there needs to be real control over the Russian military-industrial complex and conditions for reducing the army for Russia,” he explained.

At the same time, the West must realize that any ceasefire, which they call peace, will not actually mean the end of the war.

“The cognitive war, cyberwar, and sabotage activities of the Russians will continue. The war between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing for centuries – it is existential,” Kovalenko emphasized.

According to the expert, the West has spent more than 30 years trying to democratize Russia, but this is impossible in a country where the power is controlled by security services.

“A democratic Russia cannot exist where the values of the security services, which run the country, are rooted. And for the Russian security services, any democratization is death,” Kovalenko explained.

In his view, the only way to achieve real stability in Europe is to support national groups within Russia to create independent republics in the future.

“The end of this turmoil in Europe is possible solely through a focused and united position by the West in supporting national groups within Russia with the aim of creating independent republics there in the future,” Kovalenko concluded.
