Ukraine will receive double benefit: The government approved the agreement with the U.S. on mineral resources
According to the Prime Minister, as a result of the negotiations, the agreement on mineral resources has become "significantly better."
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal
On Wednesday, February 26, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine made decisions necessary for signing an agreement between our country and the United States of America to establish the "Reconstruction Investment Fund."
This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
"As a result of the negotiations, this agreement has become significantly better. The agreement no longer contains a $500 billion debt or any other. There is no longer the unjust clause that for every one dollar of new aid, Ukraine had to give two dollars back. There are no unfair positions stating that the fund would belong solely to the U.S. Now, it’s about joint ownership of the fund by Ukraine and America," the Prime Minister said.
He explained that the agreement will have six key points:
Ukraine and the U.S. will create the "Reconstruction Investment Fund," which will be jointly owned and managed by the governments of both countries.
Ukrainian subsoil and resources will remain under Ukrainian ownership; they will not be transferred to the U.S. or anyone else.
Ukraine will contribute 50% of the future revenues from its natural resource assets to the Fund.
The U.S. will contribute to the Fund in the form of funds, financial instruments, and other critical assets for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
The funds collected by the fund will be invested exclusively in reconstruction projects in Ukraine. Essentially, this is a fund for future generations of Ukrainians.
The agreement takes into account Ukraine's commitments within the European integration process, which will help avoid contradictions and conflicts.
"Thus, as a result of signing the agreement, Ukraine will receive double benefits. We will attract American investments and technologies for Ukraine’s reconstruction and accumulate resources for implementing strategic projects for the well-being of every Ukrainian," Denys Shmyhal summarized.
