Occupiers have once again shelled the nuclear plant in Kharkiv: “Dzherelo Neitroniv (neutron source)” sustained heavy damage
Russian occupiers have once again targeted the nuclear sub-critical station “Dzherelo Neitroniv” in Kharkiv.
According to the information of the station’s owning organisation – the National Science Centre Kharkiv Institute of Physics and
Technology – the occupiers have caused additional damage to buildings and infrastructure of the industrial site.
This has been announced by State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate.
According to the notice, the Russians have damaged:
- The northern wall of the accelerator to the experimental hall of the station
- Air ducts of the special ventilation system
- The main building’s ventilation shaft
- The cooling system of the klystron gallery of the accelerator
- The buildings of the diesel generators of the emergency electrical supply network
- The outside of the main building of the plant
“Staff continue to survey the buildings and structures to determine the full extent of the damage, but this work is threatened by the possibility of new bombardments”, - say State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate representatives.
Currently, the nuclear station is in a deep sub-critical state. The operational personnel of institute are in control of the plant, continue to repair damages caused by the fighting and maintain the equipment of the plant in working condition. There is no external supply of electricity to the nuclear station.
It is worth noting that the background radiation in the experimental hall of the “Dzherelo Neitroniv” station is within normal bounds.
We remind that the “Dzherelo Neitroniv” nuclear research station has already been shelled by the Russian invaders. In particular, the buildings and infrastructure sustained heavy damage on the 28th of March.
