Russia's thirst for destruction and inability to negotiate are absolute, physical constants, noted Mykhailo Podolyak.

The Presidential Office pointed out the problem in the normalization of relations between the US and Russia.

This was written by Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President, on Telegram.

"Traditionally, every presidential administration in the US sets the improvement of relations... with Moscow as an important foreign policy goal at the initial stages. This is quite logical, considering the threat that the Russian Federation, a country with a huge nuclear arsenal, can pose to the world. And to some extent, this could be considered an effective strategy of deterrence that the dominant global player wants to use. If only it weren’t about Russia with its perennial inadequacy," he noted.

Podolyak reminded how Bush Sr. tried to dissuade Ukraine from declaring independence. Under some pressure from Bill Clinton, all Ukrainian nuclear weapons were handed over to Russia under the Budapest "guarantees" of security. Mrs. Clinton, Secretary of State under Obama, handed Lavrov a "reset" button, sincerely hoping that this subject understood at least some language of diplomacy. Barack Obama advised Western democracies to react cautiously to the annexation of Crimea, which gave Russia confidence in its impunity.

The Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office noted that the list of American steps towards the Kremlin could be extended for a long time.

"Why were there so many of them? Because each previous one, unfortunately for the world, predictably ended in failure. Generations of American politicians change, but the inability of Russia to follow the rules of civilized state coexistence remains unchanged. Every time after a brief "thaw" – a new war, political murders, interference in foreign elections, attempts to destroy the international order. Because it is Russia, the "Russian world," and the Russian tradition of breaking / attacking everything…" – he wrote.

Podolyak identified one of the main reasons for the crisis in US-Russia relations.

"Each new US administration believes that the cause of the crisis in relations with Russia is the failure of previous diplomacy. This is not true at all. There are things that cannot be changed despite all efforts. Russia’s thirst for destruction is one of them. Russia's inability to negotiate is an absolute, physical constant," he concluded.
