"Putin has chosen the Chechen option to fight Ukraine": Portnikov on massive attacks
Portnikov recalled that the Kremlin used similar tactics of carpet bombing and intimidation in Chechnya, and now seeks to impose them on Ukrainians.
Russian president Vladimir Putin and the attacks on Kyiv
Russian president Vladimir Putin is furious that he still cannot establish control over Ukraine. Therefore, he has opted for the so-called Chechen option, attempting to force the Ukrainian people into capitulation through massive attacks.
This opinion was expressed by journalist Vitaliy Portnikov on his YouTube channel.
Portnikov explained the logic behind Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities.
"The truth lies in terror. The truth is that Putin is enraged because, for over three years, he has been unable to establish control over Ukrainian land. He has chosen the so-called Chechen option to fight us. As you understand, this is not the Korean or Finnish option — it is something Putin himself has already done during his long and inglorious political career. Forcing the population of a territory with which Moscow is at war to capitulate through terror," the journalist said.
He recalled that the Russian dictator managed to resolve the so-called Chechen issue through carpet bombings of Grozny and other cities in the republic, intimidating its residents, and creating conditions for a puppet government. Portnikov noted that the Russians now wish to impose the same on Ukrainians and do not even hide it.
"You can see their goals when you read the absurd memorandum handed over by Medinsky and other negotiators to our delegation during the last meeting in Istanbul," the journalist added.
"To make the population agree to Russian demands, to ensure that no one even thinks about the possibility of compromises or discussing what Putin wants, it is necessary to systematically intimidate the population daily. And how they explain it no longer matters," Portnikov said.
According to him, this can be observed. Both countries are engaged in a drone war against each other. Ukraine clearly and purposefully destroys the military potential of the Russians, and even Moscow does not hide these facts. In contrast, Russia targets residential areas.
"We see drones striking objects of Russia’s military-industrial complex, Russian oil refineries. We are actually trying to create conditions for ourselves in which the Russians cannot continue their crimes. Meanwhile, Russia deliberately uses the same drones to terrorize civilians, targeting residential neighborhoods," the journalist stated.
"And it is obvious that for the Russian political leadership, this is a real goal, and Russian society derives genuine pleasure from what it sees on the screens of its rabid televisions. Because punishing someone else for disobeying their masters is the greatest pleasure of a vile slave," Portnikov concluded.
