President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that, in response to the peace summit in Switzerland scheduled for June, Russian president Vladimir Putin decided to organize some sort of "parallel platform."
The Ukrainian Pesident made this statement at a press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on May 28.
"We proposed a diplomatic path – the Peace Summit. We appeal to world leaders: if you want peace, then let's meet at the Peace Summit. It is absolutely fair that we are preparing this platform together with other partners, because the war is in our country, so the initiative should be ours. We are the victims, we were attacked, we are being killed," Zelenskyy stated.
He emphasizes that there is no need to seek alternatives.
"We must follow this path. If there are other opinions, please come to the summit, we have an open microphone. Any country can come and defend its opinion, and propose suggestions for the diplomatic end of the war," the President of Ukraine noted.
"Putin is very afraid of the Peace Summit. He thought that 90 countries would not support us. He has been disrupting this summit and continues to do so. And that is why he is now thinking of setting up some kind of parallel platform," Zelenskyy said.
In his opinion, there are state leaders who may support Russia. This means that "they support the war."
According to the head of state, several representatives from Africa are expected to visit the Peace Summit in Switzerland. Zelenskyy also expressed his desire for the personal presence of U.S. President Joe Biden.
