Russia's negligence could threaten the world with a nuclear catastrophe

Due to the poor technical condition of nuclear weapons and nuclear energy facilities operated or maintained by Russia, the world is potentially at risk of a nuclear catastrophe.

This was stated by Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleh Ivashchenko, during his participation in the "Ukraine. Year 2025" forum.

"We see technical problems in the maintenance as well as the safety of this [nuclear] weapon. Unfortunately, this concerns not only military nuclear energy but also civilian nuclear energy. An example could be the technical condition of the Leningrad nuclear power plant, where at least seven technical malfunctions have been recorded recently, which could potentially lead to a large-scale disaster," Ivashchenko said.

According to him, this also applies to new energy facilities that Russia operates and creates in other countries. As an example, Oleh Ivashchenko cited the Belarusian nuclear power plant, where technical shutdowns and malfunctions pose a threat of a nuclear disaster, which would have consequences for all countries in the Eastern European region.
