Right now, the Russian military command is deploying significant forces to Donetsk region with the aim of encircling the cities of Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka. It is too early to say that Russia plans to shift its main offensive to the north in order to create a “buffer zone.”
This was stated by military analyst Denys Popovych during a broadcast on Radio NV.
“As people, fighting on the Pokrovsk front near Toretsk say, the situation does not indicate a reduction in Russian efforts. On the contrary, the enemy continues to press and advance, particularly from the west of Pokrovsk toward Dnipropetrovsk region. They are trying to cut off logistics between Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka by advancing along the road,” the expert said.
According to him, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has given orders to create a “buffer zone” in northern Ukraine. However, Russia lacks the capacity to launch major offensives in multiple directions simultaneously.
“They don’t have the resources for that. Putin will choose one direction and focus pressure there. Meanwhile, in a kind of "pulsing" manner, they will apply pressure in other areas to prevent us from moving reserves. I still believe that direction will be Donetsk,” Popovych added.
