The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes about it.

Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin proposed an initiative requiring newly naturalized Russian citizens to register for military service upon receiving their passports. Additionally, there are plans to consider amendments that would extend the mandatory military service period for new citizens from one year to two years and raise the conscription age.

Analysts report that Russian authorities are coercing individuals by detaining them without food and water and using physical violence to force them to sign contracts with the Russian Armed Forces. ISW cites information from the Russian opposition outlet "Okno," indicating that most detained migrants agree to participate in the war against Ukraine after being promised incentives or threatened.

The report also notes that Russian authorities are threatening to revoke the citizenship of naturalized citizens and promising migrants citizenship in exchange for military service. This practice has become more common following the terrorist attack at "Crocus City Hall" in March 2024. The government is also taking legislative measures to recruit migrants into the army, including mandatory military registration and potentially extending the term of service to two years.
