The Kremlin is seriously considering the possibility of seizing the Suwalki Corridor and is attempting to create a "missile umbrella" over the potential breakthrough area.
This opinion was expressed by military expert Dmytro Snehyriov, as reported by "Espreso."
According to him, a month ago, during the testing of Russian electronic warfare systems, cellular communication was disrupted over a significant territory of Poland and the Baltic countries. Snehyriov believes that in this way, Russia demonstrated the capabilities of its electronic warfare systems.
Additionally, in recent months, there has been a relocation of "Iskander" operational-tactical missile systems to the territory of Belarus and Kaliningrad region of Russia.
"So, the Russians are trying to create a "missile umbrella" over the potential break through area, to create the Suwalki Corridor. Therefore, Poles and NATO countries understand the seriousness of Russia's intentions," the expert says.
Snehyriov reminded that the Suwalki Corridor is a land route that is supposed to connect the territory of Belarus with Kaliningrad region.
"During the military operations, both on land and at sea, the possibility of communication routes being blocked to prevent the delivery of personnel and heavy equipment by sea cannot be ruled out. It is not coincidental that large-scale NATO exercises are currently taking place in the Baltic Sea, with the participation of about 50 naval vessels. What's even more impressive is the number of aircraft – up to 100 units... over the waters of the Baltic Sea," the expert added.
What is the Suwalki Corridor
The Suwalki Corridor is a nearly 100-kilometer border between Poland and Lithuania. This single stretch of land connects Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia with the rest of the EU and NATO countries, while separating Russia's Kaliningrad region from Belarus. In the event of a war with Russia, its seizure by Russian forces would block NATO allies' overland access to the Baltic countries.
