Russia may be planning diversions in EU countries to blame Ukraine for them. The goal is to accuse Kyiv of "disrupting peace," which Russia itself does not want.
This was stated by Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, commenting on the statements of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.
What did Russia say?
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service invented a claim that allegedly Kyiv plans to carry out a series of terrorist attacks against Russian diplomatic missions in European countries to disrupt peace talks.
The Russian intelligence service specified that Ukraine might carry out these attacks in Germany, the Baltic States, and Scandinavia, with a possible preference for Slovakia and Hungary.
Ukraine’s response
Kovalеnkо called these Russian statements an information operation under the conditional title "Ukraine doesn’t want peace." It is overseen by the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, a long-time friend of president Vladimir Putin, Sergey Naryshkin.
The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized that Naryshkin had already failed in his attempts to carry out cable diversions against NATO countries, making Russia the culprit. Afterward, he began spreading the story that Ukraine was preparing terrorist attacks against ships.
"Now Naryshkin is sticking to his old tactics and lying about "Ukraine preparing terrorist attacks in the EU," Kovalеnkо noted.
He reminded that in reality, it is Russia that had carried out a series of diversions and arson attacks in EU and NATO countries and even attempted to kill the CEO of Rheinmetall, as was reported by the Alliance itself.
"Now Naryshkin is preparing possible diversions to accuse Ukraine. But he is so incompetent that it is immediately clear from an informational standpoint that it will be Russia behind it. And all of this is part of a campaign to blame Ukraine for "disrupting peace," which Russia itself does not want," the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation explains.
