Ukraine should direct all its efforts at hitting strategic targets inside Russia — including airfields and strategic bombers — to sharply limit Moscow’s ability to attack Ukrainian territory. Strikes on tankers from the so‑called «shadow fleet» are far less important.
General of the Army and former chief of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Mykola Malomuzh, said this in a comment to 24 Kanal.
According to him, the recent strikes on Black Sea tankers belonging to Russia’s «shadow fleet» produced only an image effect.
«We shouldn’t be striking vessels of the shadow fleet, as the tankers hit were empty. The effect is mostly symbolic, and such strikes are not critically important today, ” Malomuzh said.
Top targets for strikes
The General of the Army says Ukraine must focus on systematically hitting strategic military targets inside Russia.
«We need to strike Russian airfields and strategic bombers — with missiles and ballistic-type drones that have already reached airbases in Engels and Savasleyka,» Malomuzh explained.
Strikes should hit airfield infrastructure, fuel depots, and missile support systems. Critical military-industrial complex facilities that enable aggression should also be hit. The systematic approach must include destroying missile and drone launchers.
Degrading Russia’s strategic potential
Malomuzh said the strategic bombers — Tu‑95 and Tu‑160 — are the ones carrying out strikes on both the frontline and civilian areas.
«Targeting these aircraft and their support infrastructure will cripple Russia’s strategic capability and demonstrate to the world that we’re striking core enemy assets that won’t be used against Ukraine or Europe, ” Malomuzh stressed.
He added that destroying aircraft such as the Tu‑95 and Tu‑160 is crucial, as Russia is unable to produce them quickly due to lacking key technologies. These strikes would also disrupt the enemy’s use of guided aerial bombs, which cause major problems on the frontline and in frontline regions.
The general emphasized that Ukraine must concentrate the full power of the Armed Forces, Special Operations Forces and the SSU on hitting these critical targets deep inside Russia.
