The complete blockade of the Ukrainian-Polish border, which is expected to start on February 20 with Polish farmers, intending to block not only road but also railway checkpoints, threatens Ukraine with significant financial losses.

Danilo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, reported this in his Telegram channel.

"If the border is not unblocked by the end of the month, the country's budget will lose 7.7 billion hryvnias in revenue. Consequently, the customs plan will not be fulfilled for this amount. This is very significantly for us, especially in February," he wrote.

On average, one day of downtime due to the strike at the Polish-Ukrainian border checkpoints causes approximately 1 million hryvnias in losses to a single Ukrainian company, calculated by the European Business Association.

The blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border poses a very acute challenge for the food retail sector - companies are incurring significant losses, the public association “Ukrainian Food Retail Alliance” notes. They point out that for certain categories of goods imported by retail chains, the shelf life is approximately 20 calendar days. Therefore, transport disruptions will ultimately lead to direct and indirect losses amounting to billions of hryvnias for businesses operating in the retail sector.
