The situation at the front now resembles the events of 1915 during the First World War, when both sides were in a state of fire equilibrium.
Such an opinion was expressed by military analyst, Colonel of the Reserve of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Petro Chernyk, in an exclusive interview with TSN.ua, where he also discussed when changes on the front could occur.
Chernyk believes that, ultimately, the front has been static since last autumn.
"We made the major "breakthrough" in the "Surovikin Line" - a stretch of 10 by 10 kilometers. That's rather significant, but since then, we've been in a state of fire equilibrium. Except for Avdiivka," the expert says.
He compared the current situation at the front with the events of the First World War.
"We are in a historical analogy to either 1915 or 1917 of the First World War. 1916 was a breakthrough year: there was Verdun, there was also the Brusilov Offensive, that is, there were certain movements. In 1917, everything froze. In the beginning of 1918, there was the so-called "Kaiser's Battle," and then the 100-day offensive of the Allies, which ultimately ended the First World War. So, we are approximately in those parallels," Chernyk notes.
The expert notes that currently artillery and infantry are primarily engaged on the frontlines. However, this needs to be reinforced with an aviation component and at least a few hundred long-range missiles. At the same time, Chernyk emphasizes that F-16s will not be a panacea for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. All branches of the military must act in coordination.
