The UN Has Received at Least 150 Reports on Sexual Offences Committed by the Russian Troops in Ukraine

Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion into Ukraine, the UN has received more than 150 allegations of sexual violence committed by the Russian troops, as Pramila Patten, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflicts, stated.

According to her, the Russian military servicemen are accused of raping females, males and children.

“These are cases of rape at machine-gunpoint and in the presence of family members, that occurred in the wake of the Russian forces’ attack on Ukraine”, the Special Representative added.

She urged not to conceal or leave until late the needs of victims who suffered the sexual violence.

“The physical and psychological aspects of survivors, their families, and communities are components of the balance. Restoring this balance requires consistent political will and resources to help the families and victims of these crimes”, Patten added.

According to her, one hundred fifty allegations of sexual violence are only “the tip of the iceberg".
