While advancing toward Pokrovsk, the Russian army employs the same tactics that were tested in Bakhmut and virtually all other occupied cities.

OSINT analyst and military observer Vitaliy Kononuchenko told this in a comment to "24 Kanal."

According to him, in urban combat in Pokrovsk, the occupiers could be bogged down for a long time. Therefore, they attack from the flanks rather than assaulting the city head-on.

Vitaliy Kononuchenko pointed out that the enemy forces used a similar approach to encircle Kurakhove, initially advancing southward. Now, after capturing the village of Shevchenko, the enemy has moved closer to the western outskirts of Pokrovsk.

At the same time, the expert notes that in the Kurakhove area, the Defense Forces have managed to somewhat restrain the offensive potential of the Russians. However, on the Pokrovsk front, Ukrainian troops are being forced to retreat.

"We were unable to secure even the prepared defensive line. There weren’t enough forces or coordination. Therefore, the section of the front from Kurakhove to Pokrovsk, specifically the segment from the villages of Pishchane to Shevchenko, is the most threatening and requires attention," he emphasized.

The OSINT analyst predicts that the Russian advance is unlikely to slow even if they capture Pokrovsk.

"Judging by how the Russians have ramped up their war machine, the more probable scenario is that they will continue pushing toward the borders of Donetsk region. As of now, the enemy has the resources for this. It is challenging, requires expenditures and troop redeployments, but, unfortunately, they are finding the necessary resources," Vitaliy Kononuchenko underscored.
