Troop movements underway: State Border Guard Service clarifies Belarus military buildup near Ukraine

Despite rotations and the construction of new training grounds, there are currently no signs of a strike force being formed, though Ukrainian forces remain prepared for any provocations.

No deployment of additional units or heavy equipment has been recorded on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. Despite active movements within Belarus, there is no real buildup of forces directly adjacent to the border.

Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, reported this during the national telethon.

According to him, the situation remains under control, and the enemy’s actions are primarily demonstrative in nature.

Rotations instead of an offensive

Demchenko explains that Belarus has maintained certain units at the border since 2022, citing «the reinforcement of its own security.» These troops are periodically rotated and repositioned, but their total number is not increasing.

Furthermore, border guards have not observed any movement of equipment in the immediate vicinity of the border. The construction of training grounds and roads, announced by Minsk as part of establishing a «Southern Operational Command,» has not yet evolved into the formation of a strike group.

Is there a threat from Russia?

As of today, Russia does not maintain a sufficient number of infantry or resources on Belarusian territory to launch a renewed invasion. Ukrainian intelligence and the Ministry of Defense are closely monitoring every step of the occupiers to respond promptly to any changes in the situation.

At the same time, the State Border Guard Service warns: provocations cannot be ruled out. Their objective is to force Ukraine to divert troops from more critical frontline sectors to the northern border. Consequently, fortification efforts in the Volyn and Kyiv regions, as well as other northern provinces, continue around the clock.
