Ukraine will win, and a tribunal awaits Putin: Zelenskyy's main statements from The Hague

Local parliamentarians called President Zelenskyy's speech impressive, and the visit itself historic.

TSN.ua collected the main points of the Head of State's speeches in the Netherlands.

"In The Hague, there should be a different Volodymyr"

First of all, the President thanked the Netherlands for their attention to Ukraine and their assistance to our Armed Forces. The Head of State emphasized that the Russian dictator Putin will definitely be tried in The Hague for his crimes in Ukraine, as earlier the International Criminal Court in The Hague has already taken the first step and issued an arrest warrant for the Russian dictator.

"Without a doubt, we all want to see a different Volodymyr here. We want to see him in The Hague. The one who deserves to be convicted for criminal actions. It must be done here in the capital of international law. I am sure it will happen when we win - and we will win!" the Ukrainian leader emphasized and added that the world must stop the crimes of aggression that arise in the minds of those who are accustomed to impunity.

In addition, the Head of State said that lasting peace after the victory can only be achieved through shared values.

There will be a real tribunal for Putin

Zelenskyy emphasized that a special tribunal should be established in The Hague for the trial of the Russian aggressor. He referred to the Nuremberg trials, which judged the Nazis after World War II.

"We need a full tribunal and full justice," Zelenskyy said.

For this purpose, the Head of State initiated the creation of a new tribunal that will be able to hold Russians accountable for an "act of aggression" or a decision to invade the country. Currently, the International Criminal Court examines purely war crimes. In turn, the Netherlands supported the idea of creating such a tribunal.

There should be no fear of the criminal

"Sometimes the world is afraid to do justice. But I want to call on the world: do not be afraid. The aggressor must feel the full weight of justice. This is our historical responsibility, the responsibility of the modern generation - to punish (Russia - ed.) for the crime of aggression... The world must feel completely safe," Zelenskyy emphasized.

He promised that the Ukrainian court would ensure accountability for the crimes committed by Russian occupiers. However, the only institution capable of responding to Russia's primary crime is a tribunal, not "something hybrid that will only formally close the topic."
