«We need to make a breakthrough»: Aerial scout on countering fiber-optic drones

An effective solution to the issue has not yet been found.

The biggest problem and challenge today is drones operating via fiber optics. There is no way to counter them.

This was stated by politician, public activist, serviceman, and aerial scout Ihor Lutsenko.

“But we need to finally make some fundamental breakthrough, rather than just hoping that someone in a garage will assemble a counter-drone solution — whether with artificial intelligence or fiber optics. There are some preliminary ideas for countermeasures, but they relate to other types of weaponry. These could be repurposed to work against drones in some way. However, specifically for this task — countering drones that operate outside the radio-electronic spectrum — humanity still has no answers, no effective solutions,” he noted.

If our country had enough awareness to fight for its survival in a purposeful, systematic way, we should have started developing such systems two years ago.

“There are a ton of state institutions here. They should have been given a choice: either we shut you down and stop funding, or you deliver solutions. I’m talking about the Academy of Sciences as well — it would have been a real test for them. Because it looks like they’re just draining budget funds without delivering any results. At least that’s my opinion. We shouldn’t expect, for instance, that the Ministry of Digital Transformation will hand out $100,000 grants to 20 companies to come up with something. That won’t happen, because this is a task at the level of the state of Ukraine or a corporation like Rheinmetall,” Lutsenko explained.
