During the NATO summit in Washington, scheduled for July 9-11, Ukraine may receive at least four Patriot air defense systems, and the first F-16 fighter jets may finally appear on the battlefield.
This opinion was expressed by military expert Roman Svitan in a commentary on the Kyiv 24 TV channel.
According to him, Patriot SAMs can be transferred by both the USA and European NATO partners, but the announcement may come specifically from the American president.
"This summit itself is a kind of launchpad with the backdrop of the U.S. elections, so it will be very important for them to show positive aspects of their participation. I think Biden might make this announcement. We hope for at least four Patriots. There is also hope that the summit from July 9-11 will announce the arrival of at least a few F-16 aircraft in Ukraine," he noted.
Roman Svitan emphasized that the Patriot is one component of the overall air defense system, so for the successful protection of Ukraine's skies, a comprehensive approach is needed. This should include F-16 fighters and airborne radar systems, i.e., long-range airborne surveillance aircraft.
