The advance of Russian forces in the Sumy region is not due to weaknesses in Ukraine’s defensive fortifications.

Member of Parliament Oleksandr Fediienko said this during a broadcast on the “Kyiv24” channel.

According to him, the Russian offensive is a direct order from the Kremlin, not a result of flaws in defensive structures.

"They’re pushing forward because they were ordered to… They’re advancing over the bodies of their own men," the MP said.

Fediienko explained that Ukraine’s defensive structures are being built under the guidance and control of the military.

"Some of my colleagues say things aren’t ideal. But these structures are built by the military or military administrations based on designs developed by the armed forces. It’s not up to local authorities to decide where a trench or anti-tank ditch should be," he said.

In Fediienko’s view, even the strongest fortifications cannot stop the enemy without effective weaponry.

"Fortifications are important, but what’s more important is long-range weapons and weapons of mass destruction that can stop the enemy before they reach the defensive lines," the MP concluded.
