Zelenskyy makes a new statement on negotiations with Putin
Kyiv can currently rely only on diplomatic pressure.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
No world leader has the right to negotiate with Russian dictator Volodymyr Putin without Ukraine’s involvement. International diplomatic pressure on the Kremlin is crucial at this time, as it could force the "führer" to come to the negotiating table.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien.
"I insist: no leader in the world has the right to negotiate with Putin without Ukraine. We have never delegated this mandate to anyone. We are the victims. It would be unjust if everyone began dictating how our country should live. The French decide for France, Italians for Italy, and Americans for the U.S., just as Ukrainians should decide for Ukraine," the Ukrainian leader emphasized.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine currently lacks the strength to reclaim its territories from Russia by force. For now, Kyiv can only rely on diplomatic pressure.
"I don’t think we are in a weak position, but neither are we in a strong one. Are we in NATO? We don’t know. Will we be part of the EU? Yes, in the future, but when? Under these circumstances, sitting down at the negotiating table with Putin means giving him the right to dictate terms in our part of the world. First, we need to develop a model, an action plan, or a peace plan - call it what you will. Then we can present it to Putin or, more broadly, to the Russians," the President emphasized.
