Hungary is blocking over 6 billion euros in aid to Ukraine from the European Peace Facility. One of the reasons is Ukraine's suspension of the transit of oil from the Russian company Lukoil.
Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, told "24 Kanal" about the potential consequences.
According to Podolyak, there is a "two-way game." Hungary is blocking us and consistently taking a strange position that goes against that of the European Union.
"In such a case, it would be logical for such a country to suspend its membership in the EU and declare that it has its own separate position," the advisor says.
"You receive benefits, subsidies, and grants from the European Union, yet at the same time, you block life-saving aid for Ukraine. Moreover, you want Ukraine to fulfill obligations towards you that are absurd for us. This is nonsense," the Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President stressed.
He says that Ukraine has the right to defend itself in the way it deems necessary.
"Furthermore, the transit of oil is currently suspended for technical reasons, as Russia is targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Oil pipelines cannot operate. There is an energy shortage - these are obvious things," Podolyak said.
The country, for which Hungary is ready to make certain political statements, blocks much-needed aid for Ukraine and strikes the country's energy capabilities.
"Instead of appealing to Russia and asking them to stop striking Ukraine's energy generation, demands are being made for Ukraine to ensure that other countries continue to receive everything they need. Then the question arises - shouldn't Hungary do the same for Ukraine?" Podolyak added.
