«Hope dies last»: Diplomat on severe consequences of Trump’s latest remarks
Valeriy Chaly, Head of the Board at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center and former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, said he did not rule out that Donald Trump’s recent statements were aimed at preparing the ground for a U.S. withdrawal from the negotiation process.

Chaly said Trump’s latest remarks, made at the White House earlier on Tuesday, indicated that Russians are the ones with primary «access to the president’s ear.»
«It has already become obvious: right now, the Russians and their accomplices have direct access to the „big ear“ (referring to Trump). Without fixing the situation with basic assumptions — meaning not just delivering the truth, but preventing the manipulation of facts — no negotiations will produce the desired result, ” the diplomat said.
He also did not rule out that Trump’s comments could be an effort to prepare for a U.S. withdrawal from the negotiation process.
«Unless, of course, this is not the (fully deliberate) implementation of a scenario to exit the peace process. It is certainly quite a challenge, but we must do everything possible. Hope dies last, ” Chaly concluded.
