Italy to propose global truce: Ukraine responds
The trap of the “Olympic truce”: Ukraine agrees to Italy’s proposal but recalls Georgia and 2014.

Ukraine supports Italy’s proposal for a ceasefire with Russia during the Winter Olympic Games, which will take place in February 2026.
This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi at a briefing on October 10, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
The diplomat recalls that Russia has often started wars during the “Olympic truce”, in particular launching invasions of Georgia and Ukraine.
According to the spokesman, Russia chooses this time deliberately, since the media’s attention is then focused on sports events, and therefore “crimes can be committed against the backdrop of these contests.”
At the same time, Tykhyi stresses that “Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire with Russia without necessarily waiting for the Olympics.”
“We are ready right now. If Russia needs an "Olympic truce" for that, then let it be an "Olympic truce". But we insist that this should happen sooner,” the diplomat says.
