Lukashenko has signaled a modernization push for the Belarusian military, claiming that airstrikes and missile attacks alone are insufficient for victory in modern warfare.

The self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, stressed the need to upgrade the country’s armed forces with advanced weaponry. The dictator specifically highlighted the necessity of ground operations.

The report comes from «RBC-Ukraine,» citing the state news agency BelTA.

Lukashenko stated that Belarusian authorities plan to conduct an audit of the military’s technical capabilities, arguing that effective national defense is impossible without modern hardware.

«We must possess weapons we can use and know how to operate,» the Belarusian dictator declared.

He also said that the military must account for the specific geography of Belarus as a potential theater of operations.

Addressing modern conflict dynamics, Lukashenko argued that aerial bombardment and missile strikes do not guarantee victory. He cited ongoing Middle East conflicts, including the tensions between Iran, Israel, and the U.S., as examples.

«They bombed them, rained down missiles… and what? Did they win? No. You can’t get anywhere without a ground operation,» he said.

Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council responded to these statements. Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, said that the situation is currently clouded by manipulation.

«Lukashenko is NOT preparing any ground operation. No such statement was made, nor does Belarus possess the forces capable of launching a ground offensive at this time. Everything Belarus is doing right now is simulating activity, including these information waves,» Kovalenko stated.

He added that any aggressive actions would lead to catastrophic consequences for Belarus, calling such a move a fatal mistake. Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities, he noted, are monitoring the situation closely, while the Armed Forces remain prepared for any scenario.
