Negotiations with Russia: Zelenskyy comments on Ukraine’s neutral status
In Istanbul, the Russian delegation demanded that Ukraine enshrine a neutral status in its Constitution, which would entail a complete absence of foreign troops, military bases, or weapons of mass destruction on its territory.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a briefing following a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump and addressed questions regarding a neutral Ukraine that is not part of NATO and has no foreign troops on its territory as part of Russia’s demands.
This was discussed during Zelenskyy’s briefing on May 19.
“Regarding Ukraine’s status, there is a status — it’s in the Constitution of Ukraine. Everything is written there… I’m confident that you know the Constitution. And if you have time, you can read it a bit…” Zelenskyy responded.
