No peace deal in sight for now, «Achilles» regiment commander says

Yurii Fedorenko says there are no grounds at present for a peace deal, noting that Russia continues its assaults while at the same time exploiting the diplomatic narrative.

He says that in wartime, a real diplomatic path to peace emerges only under two scenarios: the total defeat and capitulation of one side, or the complete exhaustion of both forces, when neither army can advance and the front line stalls.

Yurii Fedorenko, Commander of the 429th Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment «Achilles, ” shared this view in an interview aired by the Novyny.LIVE television channel.

He described the conditions under which diplomatic negotiations aimed at ending the war may take place.

«When are peace deals possible? When one side loses the capacity to defend itself and the other conquers it. That is called capitulation, even though it still ends with consolidation and the signing of formal documents.

The other scenario is different: one side retains its defensive capability, while the other loses the ability to conduct active assault operations. The war then freezes along certain lines because neither side is able to launch attacks. One side can defend, the other can fight a positional war, but neither can advance. That is when diplomats step in, ” Fedorenko said.

He added that this is when the conditions arise to resolve the war through political and diplomatic channels.

According to the «Achilles» regiment commander, Ukraine has so far retained its capacity to defend itself, while Russia has not lost its capability to carry out offensive actions.

«What should be the seed from which a negotiation process and a halt to hostilities could grow? I do not see it. That is why everything happening around peace talks is aimed at one thing: Putin wants to continue the fighting, advance along the front line, strike deep into our territory, and terrorize people. The enemy is currently continuing to launch strikes and carry out assaults along the line of contact while at the same time talking about a peace process, ” Fedorenko said.

He is convinced that Russian president Vladimir Putin is acting this way in order to avoid additional sanctions against his state from the United States and the European Union, as well as to prevent Washington from supplying Ukraine with weapons systems that could change the course of the fighting — such as Tomahawk missiles.
