On the brink of peace: Putin reportedly preparing new demands for Ukraine – Analyst

Fresh demands from the Kremlin — including a possible halt to Ukraine’s missile program — could derail a potential peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow, according to political analyst Vadym Denysenko.

Genuine negotiations between Russia and Ukraine appear to be gaining momentum. However, with the two sides maintaining sharply opposing positions, the prospect of signing any agreement may be in jeopardy due to Moscow’s evolving conditions.

Political analyst Vadym Denysenko, who heads the Dilova Stolytsia analytical center, made the remarks during a broadcast on Espreso TV.

“We are genuinely half a step away from peace, but that “half step” could stretch out over months or even years — or, alternatively, shrink to just two weeks. At the moment, the parties’ positions remain fundamentally at odds. Putin insists that the front line does not equate to the line of separation. Trump, on the other hand, says the exact opposite,” Denysenko stated.

According to the analyst, the Kremlin’s new demands could fundamentally threaten the agreement itself.

“Putin’s current toolkit includes various last-minute demands that could effectively jeopardize the peace process. He could suddenly pull something unexpected — like insisting Ukraine completely shut down its missile program — and in doing so, blow up the talks. So, the back-and-forth has only just begun,” Denysenko added.
