Peace talks on hold: Presidential Office reveals current format of contacts with Russia
At present, the only functioning channel between Kyiv and Moscow is the humanitarian track dedicated to prisoner swaps.
Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President Mykhailo Podolyak
The active phase of peace negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian sides has come to a complete standstill. All direct political communication between the two nations has ceased, with the sole exception being the case-by-case resolution of humanitarian issues.
Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President, detailed the current state of engagement with the aggressor state in an interview with Novyny.LIVE.
The humanitarian track and "psychiatric evaluation"
According to Podolyak, the negotiation process is currently on pause, and the parties are not engaging in direct communication to clarify their respective positions. The only component currently under active discussion remains the humanitarian front—specifically, the exchange of prisoners of war.
Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President, is responsible for managing this narrow communication channel. Regarding other potential contacts, the official took a sarcastic swipe at the Russians' grip on reality and their capacity for genuine dialogue.
"It is more a matter of conducting a psychological... or even a forensic psychiatric evaluation to determine if they are even capable of listening," the advisor noted.
Awaiting the American delegation
A pivotal step in defining Kyiv’s future actions is the anticipated visit of American partners to Ukraine. Podolyak confirmed that the Ukrainian side is actively preparing for these meetings and strategic planning. This visit is expected to determine how the state will proceed on the diplomatic level.
"We are awaiting another visit from the American delegation—that would be the right move—and we are waiting for clarity on how we move forward," stated the Presidential Office advisor.
However, the Office of the President has not yet provided specific dates for the arrival of the U.S. representatives. The scheduling of this visit remains contingent on the highly volatile international situation, particularly the evolving developments in the Middle East.
