A new wave of mobilization in Russia is unlikely to begin before autumn, though it could carry critical consequences for Vladimir Putin’s regime.
Dmytro Zhmailo, co-founder and executive director of the Ukrainian Security and Cooperation Center, stated on Kyiv24 that Russian authorities are delaying the decision due to fears of domestic instability.
He noted that the announcement of mobilization could deal a serious blow to the regime itself. Given the accumulated problems, the Kremlin understands the potential consequences.
«This mobilization could be the last — similar to the First World War,» the expert noted. «Great dissatisfaction and a massive imbalance of the state apparatus. Putin is stalling because this could simply bury the regime.»
While Russia prepares for a potential large-scale recruitment drive later this year, Zhmailo says that Ukraine must continue to strengthen its technological capabilities to counter the ongoing threat.
