China has called on Ukraine to lift sanctions on companies suspected of supplying dual-use goods to Russia. The Presidential Office described Beijing’s reaction as diplomatic and emphasized that there is only one condition for lifting the restrictions: stop aiding Russian aggression.
This was stated by Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office, in a comment to 24 Kanal.
Earlier, Ukraine imposed sanctions on several foreign companies and individuals that, according to intelligence, are assisting Russia in the war. Among them are Chinese enterprises supplying drones, optical devices, and electronics to Russia.
Mykhailo Podolyak states that China’s outrage is a typical diplomatic reaction:
“Beijing wants to demonstrate that it alone sets the rules.”
According to Podolyak, the restrictions were not imposed without basis. Ukraine has evidence that the supplied equipment is being used by Russia to kill civilians.
“These are not unilateral sanctions. These are sanctions in response to specific actions. If someone supplies tools that Russia deliberately uses against civilians, this is a justified decision,” he stressed.
Podolyak also notes that Ukraine is not acting alone: the sanctions are coordinated with European and American partners. Decisions are preceded by an analysis of data from intelligence services and justice ministries in Ukraine and other countries.
The Presidential Office emphasizes that the goal of the sanctions is not confrontation with China but to limit Russia’s military-industrial support. If the trade in technologies used against Ukrainian civilians ceases, the sanctions could be reconsidered.
