Putin repeats his trick: Political analyst on US-Russia talks
The expert says that Putin is trying to buy time, so he promises Trump both a meeting and negotiations.

Russian dictator Putin has, for the second time recently, caught US President Trump «on the hook, ” dragging out time and simulating negotiations.
This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko in an interview with UNIAN.
He compared it to a similar story with the Istanbul talks in May, which ultimately led to nothing. In particular, Fesenko recalled how in May European leaders issued Putin an ultimatum: either an immediate ceasefire or new sanctions. At that time, the Russian dictator proposed negotiations in Istanbul.
«Unfortunately, Trump agreed to this, and the issue of sanctions against Russia was then postponed indefinitely. Talks began, but there was no result regarding ending the war. Now, the situation is similar. Putin may repeat this „trick“: propose high-level talks. But their purpose is to buy time, ” Fesenko noted.
He also drew attention to Beijing’s role. The expert believes that neither China nor the Americans want a new trade war. In his opinion, China could influence Russia and persuade Moscow to end the war. At the same time, Putin may try to reach an agreement with Xi Jinping and act together against Trump.
«All this makes the situation even more confrontational. Therefore, I think that in the near future there will be an intense tactical struggle over when a high-level meeting might take place, where it might take place, and third — the agenda, ” Fesenko said, adding that ultimately the meeting might not take place at all.
