Negotiations in Türkiye could be reformatted, potentially involving the attendance of U.S. President Trump and dictator Putin.
This opinion was expressed by Ihor Chalenko, head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies, as reported by Espreso.
"Personally, I do not rule out that, despite the fact that visits by Putin and Trump have not been announced and are being denied, Trump has said he might attend, but later — not on the 15th, but perhaps on the 16th or 17th, after the completion of his Arab tour. And during that time, Putin might also be there," the expert suggested.
According to him, everything will depend on the work of the technical delegations today. If there is a result, the format could change, and we might see continued meetings in Istanbul or Ankara.
"Note that, even when talking about Sybiha, we had a meeting with Rubio in Antalya, where an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers is taking place. In this situation, I think the issue is definitely not closed. But honestly, I am very pessimistic about this, as the chances of achieving real results during the technical delegations’ meeting are extremely slim," he said.
Chalenko notes that Ukraine has not officially published the composition of its delegation, so it can still be changed.
He also did not rule out that Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and Yuri Ushakov, assistant to the Russian president on foreign policy and former Russian ambassador to the U.S., might eventually arrive in Türkiye.
"We see a consistent development of the negotiation track in Türkiye. If there is a result today, I think Lavrov will show up. Lavrov and Ushakov are likely to be there, but tomorrow. Specifically for the Rubio-Witcoff pair. And based on that, Trump’s participation is entirely possible. After the completion of his Arab tour. Obviously, Trump won’t interrupt it, but on his way back, he may well visit Türkiye directly. This is a more likely option today,” the expert concluded.
