Why Putin’s temporary ceasefire won’t work: Yermak explains

Ukraine seeks a complete end to the war — not just a few days of silence.

Russian president Vladimir Putin announced a three-day “May ceasefire.” However, the aggressor has no intention of ending the war and only seeks to buy time and regroup his forces.

This view was expressed by Head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak.

“Calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine right now play solely into the Kremlin’s hands,” Yermak wrote.

According to him, Moscow has not changed its objectives. On the contrary — Russia uses diplomatic dialogue to gain time, regroup, bypass sanctions, and resume warfare whenever it chooses.

“Today, Putin is betting on Western fatigue. He wants to "freeze" the war — not end it. That’s why any "ceasefire" without guarantees and justice will only open the door to new aggression. Easing sanctions, concessions, or negotiations on the Kremlin’s terms — that’s a trap. One cannot speak of peace while arming for a new attack,” he added.

Andriy Yermak emphasizes that the only path to peace is the defeat of Russia’s imperial ambitions — not their legitimization through yet another “temporary ceasefire.”
