In the event of a failure in the Istanbul negotiations, the U.S. and EU are set to jointly impose powerful sanctions against Russia. The coordination of sanction packages has already begun, sending a strong signal to the Kremlin.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that if the Istanbul talks on a ceasefire fail, the United States must take decisive sanctions measures against Russia.
He made this statement during a briefing.
«And so, it is very important for us to emphasize once again, as I did in our last conversation with President Trump, that if Istanbul does not move forward on the ceasefire this time, there must be strong steps from the United States, primarily a sanctions package, ” the Head of State stressed.
According to him, there are already positive signals — the U.S. sanctions package, being prepared by Senators Lindsey Graham, Richard Blumenthal, and their colleagues, has begun to be coordinated with the European Union. This will create a unified front of sanctions pressure.
«The American package is strong, with very significant measures. And the 18th European package will be strong, also containing very significant measures. If they have started coordinating, I believe there will be two strong packages, ” Zelenskyy noted.
The President emphasized that this could serve as an important signal to the Kremlin if Moscow tries to stall the negotiations again.
