Ukraine is pushing for bilateral security guarantees from Washington. The country is working intensively to secure effective assurances that could bring a lasting end to the war, with priority placed on a direct agreement with the United States.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this while responding to journalists’ questions via audio messages. He emphasized that bilateral security guarantees between Ukraine and the U.S. are «very important» for Kyiv.
«They are putting it together in a 20-point plan. It’s like Article 5 — the same as NATO’s Article 5, ” Zelenskyy stressed.
He also likened the expected support to the Alliance’s collective defense mechanism. On the European side, Kyiv is considering security guarantees within the framework of the «Coalition of the Willing.» The president expects that the details of these guarantees will emerge «in the next days and weeks.»
«You can’t just end things without knowing what the security guarantees will be, ” Zelenskyy concluded.
