Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is meticulously preparing for a planned conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. The Head of State held a series of meetings with military leadership, the Foreign Ministry, the energy minister, and Naftogaz executives to refine all negotiation aspects and secure «genuine strengthening» for Ukraine.
This was detailed in the President’s evening address to the nation on Tuesday, October 14.
Key topics
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that certain matters have already been raised with Donald Trump, with outlines of potential decisions emerging.
«We’ve discussed some things with President Trump—there are contours of decisions that could help—regarding Patriots, Tomahawks, that’s crucial, and some other weapons. Sensitive issues need to be addressed in person; you can’t cover everything over the phone,» the President emphasized.
The core focus of the talks remains air defense and the resilience of Ukrainian cities and communities, alongside «forcing Russia toward peace.» Zelenskyy stressed that U.S. leadership—and the U.S. President’s personal involvement—is vital for Ukraine.
«We have a clear vision of how steps by America, Europe, our other partners, and our actions here in Ukraine can bring the war’s end closer,» Zelenskyy stated.
Momentum toward peace
President Zelenskyy highlighted a «very strong momentum for peace» emerging globally after agreements reached for the Middle East. He believes Middle East successes demonstrate that «Russia can truly be pressed to halt its aggression.»
«Essentially, Russia remains the main source of global instability—the global source of war right now. That source needs to be turned down. We know how,» the President declared.
Ukraine also plans meetings with representatives from U.S. defense and energy companies.
