The head of state described the talks as substantive and expressed hope for further strengthening of the protection of Ukraine’s skies.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a meeting with Donald Trump. The two sides discussed Ukraine’s urgent defense needs, including the strengthening of air defense, and agreed on further work between their diplomatic teams.
The head of state said this in his official statement.
He described the meeting as “good, productive and substantive”, adding that communication between Kyiv and Trump’s team was ongoing on an intensive basis.
“We discussed the work of our teams, and in effect there are meetings or communication almost every day. The documents are now better prepared,” Zelenskyy said.
The protection of Ukraine’s skies from Russian attacks was also discussed. Zelenskyy recalled that previous talks with Trump had already produced tangible results in the form of strengthened air defense.
“Today we also discussed air defense for Ukraine — a previous meeting with President Trump helped protect our skies. I hope that this time we will also become stronger,” Zelenskyy stressed.
The president separately thanked partners for a previous package of missiles for air defense systems, which he said were already saving Ukrainian lives, and voiced a request for new deliveries.
“I asked for an additional package of missiles. Protecting lives, our resilience, and joint diplomatic work,” Zelenskyy concluded.
