Attack over Ukrainian language: Sybiha responds strongly to incident in Poland

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reacted to the assault on Ukrainian citizens in Poznań, calling the attack unacceptable and urging law enforcement to take strong action.
Andrii Sybiha shared the information on Facebook.
He said two Ukrainians were attacked on a tram in Poznań just for speaking Ukrainian.
«Verbal and physical threats fueled by national intolerance are absolutely unacceptable and demand a tough response, ” the minister stressed.
Sybiha added that he had instructed Ukrainian consuls in Wrocław to act immediately, investigate all circumstances, and safeguard the rights of the affected Ukrainian citizens.
The Foreign Ministry reports that Polish police have already detained the attackers. The case has been sent to the prosecutor’s office with a request to open a pre-trial investigation under Article 119 of Poland’s Criminal Code, covering crimes motivated by national hatred.
