Ukraine’s ambassador to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, commented on the controversial statements made by Tomio Okamura, speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, regarding Ukraine.

Zvarych wrote about this on his Facebook page.

«The offensive and hate-filled statements by Tomio Okamura directed at Ukraine and Ukrainians, made today in his New Year’s speech, we regard as his personal position, clearly shaped under the influence of Russian propaganda, ” the diplomat said.

He stressed that such remarks about Ukrainians, including the democratically elected leadership of Ukraine, «are unworthy and entirely unacceptable» and contradict the values on which the Czech Republic, as a member of the European community, is based.

«We expect Czech state authorities and civil society to properly assess these statements and their alignment with the high office held by this politician, ” Zvarych said.

The new speaker of the Czech parliament has previously been associated with a series of anti-Ukrainian actions.

In his New Year’s address, Tomio Okamura opposed supplying weapons to Ukraine «to support an entirely pointless war» and called the Ukrainian government a «junta.»

«I believe our republic will jump off the Brussels train, which, despite U.S. government warnings, is heading toward a Third World War. Money is flowing in all directions, and everyone is benefiting from this business. Western companies and governments, as well as the Ukrainian crooks around the „Zelenskyy junta,“ who are building toilets out of gold, ” Okamura said.

«Let them steal, but not here, and let such a country not be part of the European Union, ” the controversial politician added.

Earlier, in November, Tomio Okamura marked his election to the parliamentary speaker position by removing the Ukrainian flag from the parliament building, which had been displayed above the entrance as a sign of support since the beginning of Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

On his social media, Okamura regularly calls for the immediate cessation of funding for Ukraine and Ukrainians from the Czech Republic’s budget.

He also cynically accused Ukrainian refugees of allegedly «firmly securing the top spot in the ranking of foreigners involved in organized crime in the Czech Republic.»

Tomio Okamura is a Czech businessman and politician of Japanese descent.
