Hungary makes strange statement about Oschadbank stolen funds: Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry reacts

Hungary’s foreign minister has failed to provide any convincing explanation for the seizure of funds transported by Ukrainian cash-in-transit collectors.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto raised unusual suspicions about Ukrainian armoured vehicles carrying large amounts of dollars and euros through Hungarian territory. However, he once again offered no substantive reason for the detention of two Oschadbank cash-in-transit vehicles.

In a Facebook post, Szijjarto appeared completely detached from reality, asking a series of questions.
Responding to accusations by his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha that Hungary had seized cash transported by state-owned Oschadbank collectors from Austria to Ukraine, Szijjarto began questioning why the money had been transported by road through Hungary.

The Hungarian foreign minister also feigned ignorance about the lack of air connections with Ukraine, which had previously been used to deliver operational foreign-currency reserves to Ukrainian banks.
«Why were Ukrainians transporting $900 million and €420 million in cash through Hungary? What were they going to spend it on and in whose interests? How much of it was spent in Hungary and in whose interests?» Szijjarto wrote.

In doing so, Hungary’s top diplomat once again underscored the lack of any grounds for detaining the armoured vehicles, offering no credible explanation for the effective seizure of the funds.
Instead, Szijjarto again raised suspicions about what he called a «Ukrainian military mafia».

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi chose not to explain the obvious.

«In Ukraine we say: „A thief’s hat is on fire.“ It means „a guilty conscience reveals itself.“ We expect the stolen funds to be returned and we are preparing concrete legal steps. We will also demand justice and accountability, ” he wrote on X, reposting Szijjarto’s absurd questions.
